Investigating the effects of discourse features on reading for adult beginner readers
نویسنده
چکیده
Our research project investigates the effects of discourse features (particularly discourse connectives) on reading for adult beginner readers. The documents used in our experiments will be generated using a natural language generation (NLG) system. We plan a series of experiments with adult beginner readers of known reading level. The experiments will investigate the difficulty (or ease) such readers have in reading English language documents produced by our system. Our first experiment will investigate reading difficulty associated with the presence or absence of discourse connectives. Our overall aim is to build an NLG system that can tailor its output for different reading levels.
